What is man that You
take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him? Yet You have made him a little lower than
God, And You crown him with glory and
majesty! (Psa. 8:4-5).
Hey Gang: If I were
to ask that question to a hundred, perhaps even a thousand people, I would get
a hundred, or perhaps ever a thousand, different answers. You would certainly get totally different
answers between Believers and non-believers, or at least you should.
As I was thinking of
this question, I asked myself how I would have answered that question as a teen
ager? a young adult? an old married man? or one from the older than dirt
brigade? As you might guess, the comparisons were vastly different, especially
in the before and after conversion years.
Our Pastor asked that question in his message this week and
then expounded on the question. It is a
question we should all seriously take the time to answer. It could make a difference on where you will spend
eternity. His question was focused on ‘Why
are you here in church?’ Did you come to
enjoy the music and, or the worship?
Keep in mind that Lucifer was the head of the worship team in the
heavenlies before he decided he was more qualified to be God than God. He was into deep worship before his heart
turned black.
But? do we enter the God’s sanctuary for more than worship
and praise. A question that we must
examine our hearts to answer. His message was preceded by communion. As I stood watching the people come to the
altar and take the bread and grape juice, the words of Abraham rang so clearly
in my heart and mind, “Lord, would you
spare this once great nation for ten righteous people?”
Why are you in church this morning? King David answered that
question for himself when he said, “What
is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for
him? Yet You have made him a little
lower than God, And You crown him with
glory and majesty! (Psa. 8:4-5).
Scientists have been asking that same question for generations and was
interesting to learn, from a recent study among the scientific world, that more
than one-third no longer believe in evolution- that we evolved from an amoeba
that crawled out of the pond one day and here we are.
We need to remember that God did not need us, nor does He
need us now. I often wonder why He
opened the door to what would be future ‘great frustration’ to Him, when He
knew precisely that man was going to rebel against Him from the very beginning.
Luke wrote, “The God who made the world and all
things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples
made with hands; nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything
since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things” (Acts
17:24-25)..
The answer to the question, “why are we here?’ simply stated
- because someone needs us. It is God’s
desire that every living soul has a deep desire in their heart to want Him as
Lord and Savior of their life. It is
also the desire of God that all come to the true knowledge that is He is Lord
and Savior who offered His life that we might live. His deepest love for us is seen in His words,
“I want no one, not a single soul to
perish.”
So, why did He create us? So that we can come to the full knowledge
of the deep love He has for His creation.
I believe He created us for fellowship with Him. (there are many verses
throughout the Bible that God desires fellowship with His creation and one day
will dwell In the midst of His people.
What good would a perfect earth be, if here was
no one to enjoy it. After rereading this
epistle I am not sure I have answered the question, ‘Why are you here?” for
there is not enough space to answer such a question.
It is an individual thing that comes from the depth of each
and every person’s heart. But this I
know, God loves his creation! How do I
know this? Because He would not send His
only begotten Son to earth to be savagely killed on a hideous cross to provide
a way for me to be freed from the bondage of my sins and open the way for me to
one day be with Jesus in eternity.
Something for each to think about continually!
Blessings,
Gramps
