Memories, Memories, Memories

“Remember Him before the silver cord is broken and the golden bowl is crushed, the pitcher by the well is shattered and the wheel at the cistern is crushed: then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it” (Ecclesiastes 12:6-7).

Hey Gang, I read a very sad notice in the email this morning, that The Roy Rogers Museum has closed its doors for good. I remember as a brawny lad that Saturday morning when the serials were playing at the theaters was the time I anticipated with great joy when Roy Rogers on his faithful horse trigger with Gabby Hayes at his side conquered evil and saved the poor and weak from harm.

It is extremely sad to see this era lost forever.  Despite the fact that ll of the early heroes movies, as well as those of other great characters, can be bought or rented for viewing, today's kids would rather spend their time playing video games.

Today it takes a very special pair of parents to raise their kids with the right values and morals.  These were the great heroes of our childhood, and they did teach us right from wrong, and how to have and show respect for each other and the animals that share this earth.I believe I was born at the right time.

I grew up surrounded by  these great people even if I never met them.  In their own way they taught us patriotism and honor, we learned that lying and cheating were bad, and sex wasn't as important as love.  We learned how to suffer through disappointment and failure and work through it.  Our lives were drug free.

Soooo,  it's good-bye to Roy and Dale, Gene and Hoppy, The Lone Ranger and Tonto. Farewell to Sky King and Superman and Sgt. Friday.  Thanks to Capt.. Kangaroo, Mr. Rogers and Capt. Noah and all those people whose lives touched ours and filled many little boy's hearts with anticipation that one day they, too, would be shining Knights in armor saving the world.

Blessings,

Gramps
