Ready Or Not Here I Come

Rainbow over the Kinneret (ICEJ Staff photograph)Rainbow on the Galilee Shore
Today's picture is of a rainbow over the Sea of Galilee, touching down on the Western shore. It reminds us of Revelation 10:1-3; "I saw another strong angel coming down out of heaven, clothed with a cloud; and the rainbow was upon his head, and his face was like the sun, and his feet like pillars of fire; and he had in his hand a little book which was open. He placed his right foot on the sea and his left on the land; and he cried out with a loud voice, as when a lion roars; and

“Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one will be left.  Two women will be at the mill, one will be taken and one will be left” (Matt. 24:40-41).

Hey Gang:   Did you ever play hide and seek as a child?  As a child of a coalminer in the mountains of Pennsylvania  we did not have the means to purchase the neat things we have available for our kids today, so we had to use our imagination and ingenuity to come up with things to occupy our time.

Our first line of activities centered on the river that ran through our three family community but we also had a repertoire of games that filled the empty hours with fun like activities.  My favorite, even though as the youngest and less experienced in such activities, I always seemed to be 'IT' was 'Hide and Seek”.

I have thought about those special times when we played 'Hide and Seek'. I must admit that I would dearly love to hear the words “Ready or Not, Here I Come” again, for two of the main participants of those games was my brothers Del and Norm and later with Von. Both Del and Von have since passed away.

But there is a far more important “Ready or Not” that is not game, but very serious business found throughout the Bible.  Jesus, in the Olivet Discourse, gave us a warning that all should take very seriously.  He said, “Therefore”,  (As Bob Mumford would say “When you come across a 'therefore' you need to find out why it is “there-for”.)  “Be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.

But, be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into.  For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.  Who then is the faithful and sensible slave whom his master put in charge of his household to give them their food at the proper time?  Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes.  (Matthew 24:42-46).

Sooooo good buddies, what if Jesus cried out today “Ready or Not Here I Come” are you hidden securely in Christ?  Is your name written on the palm of His hand?  I pray when “The Roll is Called Up Yonder” each of my family and loved ones will be there.

Blessings,

Gramps
