“Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (I Sam 16:7).
She looked as if someone had hit her in the face with a baseball bat. Her eyes were nearly swollen shut, her face was black and blue and her skin looked like it had been run through a sanding machine, and all of this so as to make the outward appearance more perfect in her eyes. That was a couple years ago and I happened to cross paths with her last week and you will never guess what – the wrinkles have returned with a vengeance.
The news is filled with a zillion of ads, most with the intent to make your outside more perfect. ‘Take this and you will see the pounds drop from your mid section, take this and it will fix those ghastly wrinkles in your face, take this and buckets full of energy will flow into your body.’
God said, don’t get caught up in that KIND OF NONSENSE, “For I look not at the outside but only at the heart”. I have been privileged to rub elbows with some truly beautiful ladies in my life who are beautiful on the outside but it is the inside that truly makes them beautiful, including the bride-of-my-youth.
The Word tells us Solomon was a “ladies man”. He collected them from all parts of his universe but take a moment or two and turn to Proverbs 31:10-31 and read what the writer said was the perfect bride and notice his final conclusion “Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, A woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised”.
Soooo, does it mean that it does not matter what we look like on the outside? Not in your sweet bippy! Our body is God’s temple and it should be spit and polished at all times, INSIDE and OUT.
Blessings
